About Kate and Hey Yoga
Welcome to Hey Yoga created by Kate, a yoga teacher, qualified social worker, author, former detective senior sergeant, advocate for police accountability and whistleblower.
I stive to embody my core values of integrity, resilience, and honesty building a life rooted in trust, strength, and self-awareness.
A life dedicated to service and truth
For 23 years, Kate served as a Queensland police officer later becoming a whistleblower bringing critical attention to systemic failures surrounding domestic & family violence homicide investigations for Broken Trust, Guardian Australia.
Kate conducted a five-year legal battle concluding in 2022 with a successful claim against the Queensland Police Service for bullying, sexual harassment and negligence.
Kate has continued her advocacy for police accountability. In 2024, she contributed a chapter to Veronica Gorrie's book When Cops Are Criminals.
Kate is now a social worker with a focus on research in moral injury.
Finding calm and nurturing on the mat
Through prolonged stress, trauma, and standing up for accountability, yoga became a vital sanctuary.
Grounded in her professional background as a social worker and her personal journey through recovery, Kate’s classes are slow, gentle, and deeply restorative.
The intention is never perfection or physical strain; it is about cultivating inner ease, breath, and a safe harbour to release tension.
Kate attributes her initial recovery to the life-changing and life-saving work of Frontline Yoga and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction training conducted by Lisa Brown and Kate Duncan
Kate practices mindfulness daily, is an avid multi-day trekker and a closet hot yoga junkie.

An open space for everyone
Hey Yoga welcomes absolutely everyone, regardless of prior experience, age, or background. Above all, Kate’s greatest wish for every student stepping into the room or onto the mat is simple: to leave with a renewed sense of hope and the reassurance that things will be okay.
"No matter how heavy life feels or what you have carried to your mat, there is always room to breathe, soften, and know that things will be okay."
