Professional qualifications & clinical insight

At Hey Yoga in North Brisbane, my classes are guided by deep clinical knowledge, trauma awareness, and evidence-based mindfulness. Discover how an extensive background in crisis intervention, social work, and specialised yoga training creates a safe, restorative environment for every body.

Accredited yoga disciplines

My teaching is rooted in comprehensive certifications tailored to support mental health, nervous system regulation, and all stages of life.

Trauma-Aware Yoga

After completing the 8 week life-changing and life-saving Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction - Trauma Recovery and Prevention (MBSR-tr) through Frontline Yoga, I completed training in Trauma Aware Yoga Teaching, Byron Yoga Centre facilitated by Chris Thomspon_Lang. I further enhanced my passion for teaching in this area completing workshops in Moral Injury and Yoga through Frontline Yoga.

I prioritise trauma-informed principles in all of my teaching to help restore a sense of agency and choice, increase self-compassion, decrease self-blame, support emotional regulation and create safe opportunities for connection and community,

A bridge between therapeutic care and movement

Understanding trauma is vital to facilitating mindful recovery. My classes are shaped not only by movement standards, but by university postgraduate qualifications in social work, suicide prevention, and domestic violence response.

Academic and clinical credentials

Alongside formal yoga accreditation, I hold a Master of Social Work (Qualifying) from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) (2022), a Graduate Certificate in Domestic Violence Responses, QUT (2024), and a Master of Suicidology,  Griffith University (2015).

This rigorous education ensures every movement cue, environment adjustment, and breath practice is informed by trauma dynamics and psychological safety.

Lived insight and frontline experience

With more than 20 years of policing experience across gender-based violence, coronial investigations and child protection, and alongside social work crisis intervention for current and former Australian Defence Force members, I bring rare empathy to my practice.

As a former defence spouse, daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, and granddaughter of a WWII prisoner of war, trauma-informed care is both a professional standard and lived commitment.
